The Man
In the beginning, man was formed not as an accident of nature but as a direct act of the Creator. YAHUAH formed him from the dust of the ground and breathed His own breath into him — a divine impartation of life and spirit.
| Reference | Summary | Hebrew Insight |
|---|---|---|
| Genesis 2:7 | “YAHUAH Elohim formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.” | Yatsar (יצר) — to form, fashion intentionally; Neshamah (נְשָׁמָה) — divine breath of consciousness. |
| Genesis 1:26–27 | Man created in the image and likeness of YAHUAH, given dominion over the earth. | Tselem (צֶלֶם) — image, reflection; Demuth (דְּמוּת) — likeness or pattern. |
| Genesis 2:21–24 | Woman formed from man’s side, establishing divine unity: “bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh.” | Marriage covenant rooted in echad — oneness of design. |
🕯 Cross Witness:
➤ 1 Corinthians 11:11–12 — “Neither is the man without the woman, nor the woman without the man, in YAHUAH.”
➤ Matthew 19:5–6 — “They are no longer two, but one flesh. What YAHUAH has joined together, let no man separate.”
When Adam hearkened to the voice of his wife and disobeyed the command of YAHUAH, he forfeited the harmony of creation. The ground became cursed for his sake, and labor became toil. Death entered, not by creation, but by rebellion.
Genesis 3:17–19 — “Cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow you shall eat of it all the days of your life… For dust you are, and unto dust shall you return.”
Man’s work and sweat became symbols of struggle under the weight of sin. Yet even in this curse, there was mercy — for the dust from which man came would one day witness his redemption through the Second Adam.
🕯 Cross Witness:
➤ Romans 5:12 — “By one man sin entered the world, and death by sin.”
➤ 1 Corinthians 15:22 — “For as in Adam all die, even so in Mashyach shall all be made alive.”
Job and the wisdom writings remind us of man’s fragile state — mortal, bound to the dust, and filled with vanity without the Spirit of YAHUAH. Yet even in despair, hope arises through faith in resurrection and renewal.
Job 14:1–2 — “Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble. He comes forth like a flower and is cut down.”
Job 14:14–15 — “If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. You shall call, and I will answer You.”
Though man dies, his spirit is preserved by YAHUAH. The resurrection hope expressed by Job foreshadows YAHUSHA’s victory over the grave.
🕯 Cross Witness:
➤ Ecclesiastes 12:7 — “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto Elohim who gave it.”
➤ John 5:28–29 — “The hour is coming when all that are in the graves shall hear His voice.”
The man and the woman were designed as one — equal in essence, distinct in function. Yet through the woman came the first deception, and through Adam’s choice came transgression. Scripture does not condemn womanhood but reveals the consequence of disobedience.
Ecclesiasticus 25:24 — “Of the woman came the beginning of sin, and through her we all die.”
Ecclesiastes 7:26 — “I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets… he that pleases YAHUAH shall escape from her.”
These verses reveal man’s need for discernment and righteousness — to overcome the pull of the flesh and walk in obedience. Yet the redemption of woman is also prophesied, for through her seed (Genesis 3:15) the Deliverer would come.
🕯 Cross Witness:
➤ Genesis 3:15 — “Her seed shall bruise the serpent’s head.”
➤ Galatians 4:4 — “Elohim sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law.”
➤ 1 Timothy 2:14–15 — “Adam was not deceived… but she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith.”
Man’s days are short and his labors often fruitless without YAHUAH. Job, Solomon, and the prophets lament this condition but also look forward to renewal. The vanity of man’s strength points to the need for divine grace.
| Scripture | Summary |
|---|---|
| Job 15:14–16 | “What is man, that he should be clean? He drinks iniquity like water.” |
| Job 16:19–21 | “My witness is in heaven, and my record is on high… O that one might plead for a man with Elohim.” |
| Ecclesiastes 1:2 | “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” |
| Romans 8:20–21 | “The creation was subjected to vanity… yet in hope, because creation itself shall be delivered.” |
In YAHUSHA, man’s vanity is transformed into victory. The corruption of the flesh gives way to the incorruptible body of resurrection.
🕯 Cross Witness:
➤ 1 Corinthians 15:45 — “The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening Spirit.”
➤ Philippians 3:21 — “He shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body.”
The story of man does not end in dust. Through YAHUSHA, the Second Adam, humanity receives restoration of the divine image. The breath once lost through sin is restored by the Ruach Ha’Qodesh. Man regains dominion, not through fleshly power, but through covenant obedience.
Romans 5:18–19 — “As by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous.”
1 Corinthians 15:47–49 — “The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is YAHUAH from heaven… as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.”
The Redeemer became man to redeem man. He restored what Adam lost, breathing again the Spirit of life upon His disciples (John 20:22).
🕯 Cross Witness:
➤ John 3:5–7 — “Except a man be born of water and Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of Elohim.”
➤ 2 Corinthians 5:17 — “If any man be in Mashyach, he is a new creation.”
➤ Revelation 21:7 — “He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his Elohim, and he shall be My son.”
The man was created in glory, fell in pride, labored in pain, and was redeemed in mercy. From Adam to YAHUSHA, the narrative of man is the revelation of YAHUAH’s love, justice, and restoration.
“What is man, that You are mindful of him? or the son of man, that You visit him?” — Psalm 8:4
